Homemade Biscuit Mix
In these days of sky rocketing grocery prices, pre-packaged mixes are not economical. This homemade mix goes together fast, and you can still have fresh, hot biscuits on the table in no time!

Servings: 12 cups of mix
- 10 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup baking powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 tsp salt
- 2 cups vegetable shortening like Crisco
Measure 10 cups flour into a LARGE bowl
Stir in the baking powder, sugar and salt until well combined
Cut in the vegetable shortening using a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
The biscuit mix should look like this.
If desired, package into 2 cup portions, label and store in a cool dry place.
Homemade Biscuits
Place 2 cups of the biscuit mix in a bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup of milk or buttermilk. Lightly flour a work surface and scrape the dough out. Knead lightly about 10 times. Pat out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Using a 2-1/2 inch biscuit cutter, cut out 10 biscuits. Re- roll the dough as needed to make 10 biscuits. Heat oven to 450 degrees.Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
