It’s 5 pm here in Bavaria on Monday, November 16th. And it’s dark. Very dark. The trees are barely silhouetted and I just don’t like it! Nope….not even a little bit. It’s 5 pm and I just want to close the curtains and call it a day. During the summer at 5 pm, it’s like “YEA! I got all evening to go here and here and here! Let’s do this and this and this and maybe even this!” Today, I’m like, “Well, it’s to late to go to the store, it’ll be closing in 3 hours. Guess I’ll have Cheerios for dinner.” LOL! I enjoy the changing seasons. In fact, I couldn’t live anywhere without all 4 seasons including that one with 6 feet of snow and -10 temperatures, but whose idea was it that we need darkness at 4 pm? I keep thinking , “Oh, I’ll just go for my cross country walk after dinner,” then reality hits……sigh. Well, the optimist in me says that we are closer to Spring today than we were in September!
Dan and I spent all Saturday afternoon doing yard work that we seriously neglected this Fall. After my Carpal Tunnel Surgery I just couldn’t use the push lawn mower and forget the weed whacker. My hand is small and I can’t even reach the trigger! Dan is gone so much and weekends are so busy we just got the bare necessities done. Between the 2 of us, the yard looks better than it has in months. Anyway, it’s a jump start on next Spring!
Here’s what Saturday looked like. Oh now, please…don’t get all down in the dumps. It gets better!
Sigh….all gone. They’re all gone.
Lettuce is gone. Herbs are done. Marigolds are finished but Gracie is still here!
Sad, sad, little ol’ yard!
Is Sparky saluting the end of summer??? The rock garden was spilling over with flowers. Dang!
Now….here comes the good part! Time to start focusing on Spring and renewal and green and, and, and, and pouring over Seed Catalogs and plotting and planning and hoping and dreaming because really and truly SPRING is just around the corner!
And we’ll have Purple and Pink and White Hibiscus!
And Candy Cane Stripped Petunias by the bushel! And they will grow and prosper!
And Gladiolas Galore!
And Passionately Perfect Pink Peonies!
In between we have the season of Quietude and Restoration.
In the Quiet of Winter, there lies the hope of Spring. Winter Blessings to you, my friends.

As always this was wonderful. Yes, the glass is half full and Spring really isn’t that far away. I’m not crazy about it getting dark so early either. Makes me want to go to bed and it’s only 5 o’clock…ugh. Too much to do to go to be that early. Enjoying sorting through my new gemstones and designing pieces in my head.. …
Hugs

Reading this helped me have a better outlook on the approaching winter, knowing spring and flowers will follow.

Carol, Thanks for saying so. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. As native Western New Yorkers, we got this winter thing down! Hope you post some pictures of Mayville’s Ice Castle this year.
