We’re heading over “The Pond” again tomorrow to bear witness to, and then celebrate the wedding vows of two very special people. Guess that has me a little, well actually… a lot sentimental today as I mull over this journey called marriage that they are embarking upon. Neither of these two “kids” are mine by birth, but I have children of my own and as a mother this is what I wish for Dan’s son and our future daughter in law. Oh heck, this is what I wish for all young lovers.
First, I wish you many, many, many happy years together. So many years that some day there will be a photo of you two in your dotage, with your walkers, holding hands while your great grand kids pass out pieces of cake.
I wish you good health and if at some point you falter, I wish you compassion to care for each other.
I wish you perseverance with a tad of stubbornness so when life throws you a curve ball or 50 or a 100, you won’t give up on each other, but stand determined to weather the storms.
I wish you a sense of humor. A huge absurd sense of humor because laughter will get you through a whole lot more situations than a lake of tears.
I wish you a sense of wonder. Wonder, so when you’re 25 years, 2 kids, a big hairy dog and an old lame cat into your marriage, you will still look at each other with wonderment, smile and say “Yea, we got this,” but wonder just how that happened.
Lastly, I wish you will always and forever, remember what made you fall in love with each other so you will continue to fall in love over and over and over til death do you part.
Let the journey begin.
